From Jim O'Brien's 1971-72 Complete Handbook of Pro Basketball:
Played in ABA mid-season all-star game three years in row (1968, 1969 and 1970). . . Played for Squires franchise when it was operated out of Oakland and won ABA title during 1968-69 season . . . Was leader of New Orleans Bucs in first year when they won Western title . . . Played for Squires during their first year in Virginia when they won Eastern Division title . . . "Doug's the all-around player we need," says Coach Bianchi. "He's smart, been around and knows his way in the league." . . . "Doug puts movement in our attack," added Bianchi.  "He's such a good passer and he can still play the 'D.'  Guys hate to have him guard them." . . . Averaged 17.3 points as Carolina Cougars' second best scorer in 1969-70 . . . Was among league leaders in assists as well . . . Described by Carolina coach Bones McKinney as "an exceptional hustler, who has the knack of being in the right place at the right time." . . . Baseball was center of his life as a boy.  He was, of course, a Brooklyn Dodger fan . . . "The Duke," he says of Duke Snider, the Dodger outfielder, "was my all-time favorite.  We went to as many games as we could and always sat in the bleachers." . . . Was a baseball pitcher at one point, and physically resembles and does same job on court as Dave DeBusschere of Knicks, who's played pro ball in both sports . . . Didn't report knowledge of goings on prior to 1960 betting scandal that rocked nation and killed off career in NBA . . . Thought he had done enough by refusing bribe to fix games . . . Has filed suit similar to that lodged against NBA by Connie Hawkins and Roger Brown
